NOTES
The original appearance of this image would have been richer and brighter, more like the verdant landscape depicted. Over time this work has experienced a slight shift in color, which is common for hand-colored prints. The watercolor medium used for hand-coloring is very sensitive to light. The most fugitive color here is yellow, which diminishes first, leaving an overall blue cast. In this particular scene, the loss is most noticeable in the trees and meadow in the foreground.
