NOTES
This image of a young girl dancing on the street is characteristic of the directness and immediacy of Roger Mayne’s approach to photography. Mayne worked as a freelance photojournalist for London magazines. For several years he concentrated on the young residents of Southam Street in Notting Dale. Though he was working in one of London’s poorer neighborhoods, Mayne discovered a vibrancy of street life in the playful activities of its children and teenagers.
