NOTES
Lisa Sanditz's Christmas for Export depicts massive heaps of brightly-colored, discarded ornaments in a bleak landscape. It is one of the artist's "factory town" paintings, based on a year-long residency in China. The series explores the intersection of industry and nature, production and debris within the context of the global marketplace. In this work, Sanditz's painterly approach and palette enable her to tread the line between abstraction and representation. She embraces this compromised landscape, reimagining and transforming it to achieve a kind of post-modern sublime.
