NOTES
From Lee Friedlander’s series America by Car, this image incorporates the interior structure of a rental car to frame the architecture of downtown New York City. Buildings at various angles are visible through the windows, in the side mirror, and even in the reflection on the adjacent SUV. It is a timely comment on how Americans increasingly experience the outside world through the confines of the automobile, as well as a dynamic composition where lines simultaneously point forward, sideways, and backward.
