[1] According to a letter from Hanns Schaeffer dated January 15,1963, the painted was acquired in exchange from Professor Antonio Morassi in Milan, Italy. No date was given [SLAM document files].
[2] The painting was lent by Dr. and Mrs. Hanns S. Schaeffer to an exhibition at the Finch College Museum of Art from October 31 to December 8, 1962. Listed as catalog number 18, the painting is attributed to Salvator Rosa [“A loan exhibition of Neapolitan masters of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries,” Finch College, New York, 1962, no. 18, p. ; copy, SLAM document files].
