NOTES
High hills, full trees, and rocky banks fill this rural scene of the Missouri countryside. Oscar Thalinger followed his studies at Washington University with training in Paris and Munich. The blocky forms of color he used to create his landscape were likely inspired by the modern experiments of French painters, who used similar flat areas of color to build forms.
Thalinger worked from 1913 to 1952 at the Museum as a registrar and took an active role in many art groups in the city.
