NOTES
The print’s inscription (“If you wish to be prudent, set your eyes on the future and make provision for everything that can happen”) identifies the theme. People are busily salting meat, storing provisions, repairing a dilapidated house, and extinguishing flames. Prudence stands in the center: with a coffin in her left arm and a mirror in her right, she wears a sieve to separate Good from Bad.
