NOTES
This porcelain basket has a deep bowl with reticulated, or pierced, sides. The central medallion is decorated with pagodas and boats in a landscape. The basket rests on the decorated flat area of a matching underplate, which also has a reticulated border of pierced lattice design. “Canton” wares for the American market, of which this is an example, are similar to, but of lesser quality, than “Nanking” wares made for the English market.
