Member Lecture—Discussion with the Artist: Wole Lagunju
A rare opportunity! In 2023 the Museum proudly acquired Irawo II, a striking and powerful piece by Nigerian-born artist Wole Lagunju. This painting, depicting Irawo, a revered Yoruba ruler, explores of the intersection of royalty, nature, and spirituality, further enriched by its detailed symbolism and cultural depth.
Using Irawo II as a starting point, artist Wole Lagunju and Curator Simon Kelly will discuss Wole’s innovative art, which is deeply rooted in Yoruba traditions. This event is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the artist about his artistic journey and the way his work reflects cultural history and identity.
Arrive anytime after 5:15 pm to view Irawo II in Gallery 248. The lecture will begin at 6 pm.
