Teacher Workshop: Paintings on Stone
Current and pre-service teachers are invited to join us for a special multidisciplinary Teacher Workshop inspired by the exhibition Paintings on Stone: Science and the Sacred 1530-1800.
During the workshop, participants will tour the exhibition with curators Judy Mann and Andrea Miller. Participants will then discover more about local Missouri geology and explore rock samples with geology professor John Encarnacion. (Participants can even bring in their own rocks for Encarnacion to help identify.) After learning about local geologic connections, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with painting on slate surfaces with the guidance of conservator and art historian Joan Reifsnyder, who will join us via Zoom all the way from Florence, Italy!
Lunch and materials will be provided. Participants will take home their slate painting at the end of the workshop.
Enrollment is free, and is on a first come, first served basis. Space is limited and enrollment requests are considered with regard to equitable school and/or school district representation. Enrollment requests are due no later than April 6, 2022.
